Berlin, 04.09.2024 – tado° is today unveiling four major developments as part of its continuing mission to make home energy management more accessible, cheaper and greener for millions of homes across Europe and the UK.

Following the successful European launch of its new tado° X range of smart heating products in May, tado° has continued to develop and improve its cutting edge hardware and software and is proud to reveal:

Wireless Smart Thermostat X

tado° completes its X range of products with the launch of Wireless Smart Thermostat X as an alternative to its Wired Smart Thermostat X to control a boiler, a zone valve and underfloor heating systems.

It is easier to set up, easy to use with its simple smart scheduling and other features that customers can simply set and forget and has an award-winning design.

Wireless Smart Thermostat X is compatible with two types of heating interfaces: relay (on/off, mechanical) and Opentherm (digital). It can be used alone or as part of a home with multiple Smart Radiator Thermostat Xs to give full control of heating in every room of the home. It comes as a model for EU countries and one for the UK, which has dedicated hot water control to cater for the different heating systems in British homes.

As with the rest of the tado° X range, Wireless Smart Thermostat X is a Matter device using the Thread protocol, offering greater radio range and coverage for larger properties. Additionally, Wireless Smart Thermostat X also is a Thread border router, meaning that customers do not need to buy the Bridge X or use a third-party device such as the Apple HomePod Mini to run their Thread mesh network.

New Heat Pump Optimizer X improvements

tado° also delivers on its promise to continue developing and improving its home energy management solutions for heat pumps.

Daikin devices are now compatible with Heat Pump Optimizer X and Panasonic compatibility will follow in November. Heat Pump Optimizer X was already compatible with Atlantic, Vaillant, Saunier Duval and Fujitsu, and work continues for other brands.

tado° can also unveil today further efficiency improvements and savings for heat pumps with improved room-guided heating optimization. Now, tado° Smart Thermostat X and Smart Radiator Thermostat X will feed back to Heat Pump Optimizer X if they have reached their individual desired temperature. This information is aggregated to then reduce the temperature flow of the heat pump – or send it to standby mode – making it operate more efficiently. 

The improvement is that previously the Heat Pump Optimizer X would turn the heat pump fully on or off based on the information from devices in each room, whereas now it will reduce the percentage the heat pump is running at.

tado° X products may be new but the features customers have grown to know and love are still in place. tado° allows households to control temperatures from anywhere, anytime, via its smartphone app or by voice with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit. Key skills include Smart Scheduling, Geofencing to turn down the heating when everyone is away, Open Window Detection and Air Comfort. All these features lead to energy savings, on average, of 22%^[1] whilst cutting a home’s carbon footprint. tado° X can also act as the gateway to tado°’s full range of energy management solutions that, through combining smart thermostats, app control and ‘set-and-forget’ smart features, heat pump optimization and dynamic energy tariffs can save a home hundreds of Euros a year. tado° also offers its Smart Charging App for electric vehicles and, in Germany and Austria, hourly dynamic electricity tariffs as well as photovoltaic feed-in tariffs for homes.

Compatibility with tado° V3+ devices

Because tado° X is built on a completely new and different technical platform to V3+ and previous tado° generations, it is not compatible with these devices. However, tado° is not abandoning those generations and its support promise was hailed by UK consumer champion Which? as “leading the way” in the Smart Thermostat market^[2]. tado° will continue to sell and support our current v3+ product line. It is a proven product line with great adoption and designed to last with the lifetime of a heating system.
